So Nat and I watched Papa to Kiss in the Dark, wherein I got turned on by all the sexual noises Midorikawa was making, and I'm sure that surprises approximately zero people. Unless you are new to this here journal of mine, in which case, now you know. The ending was a little weird, in which Kyousuke basically just goes out and says, "HERE IS HOW YOU WERE BORN, NOW YOU KNOW." In a park. And then, presumably, they have sex.

Basically if you like Gravitation, you'd like this. The fact that Mira resembles Shuichi a little also doesn't help. Or the fact that Kyousuke resembles Eiri Yuki. It's not as bad as Zetsuai and its sequel or, uh Okane ga Nai, but nothing could be worse than Okane ga Nai anyway, so.

As with all reviews, there are spoilers, but I don't think you're going to go off and watch this on Youtube or anything, are you? Yeah, I thought so. Besides, my review is basically a more in-depth version of what Wikipedia gives you.

All right. So, we open on a boy in a pink apron (I shit you not, a pink apron) running around because ZOMG FIRST DAY OF HIGH SCHOOL and let's back up a moment because, hey. I'm an American and you know how much we value education over here (read: education is a place where parents shove their kids in the hopes that they'll be smarter than, uh, rednecks. Their kids, being naturally rebellious against such desires, become slightly smarter than rednecks, but they treat these prisons called 'school' as a place to meet friends, make out in the hallways, shove freshmen into janitor's closets [hey, that's what happened at my school], and text in the middle of class. Because learning is for chumps, nerds, and people who actually want to better themselves), and how high school really isn't that big of a deal.

But see, in Japan, high school is not compulsory, but they go to high school anyway because otherwise they shame their families love to learn and they have nothing better to do with their lives anyway. So Mira, like any other Japanese kid, is all ZOMG HIGH SCHOOL FIRST DAY FJKDFSJDSFD because that's just what they do.

Anyway. Mira's running around like the Tazmanian devil on crack and laments over the fact that his lazy father-or-is-he-really was supposed to wake up at six and he's sleeping OMG THAT SLACKER HOW DARE HE. He rips the curtains open and Yohji Kyousuke, voice acted by the lovely Miki Shinichirou (who starred in Sukisho and about 5748574 other BL series, but he's also ttly a srs actor gaiz 'cause he was also in Weiss--...oh wait, don't they consider that 'BL' too? 'Cause Yohji and Aya were fucking in the back room or something? Yeah idk I didn't listen to all the drama cds), says something like, "Who's the naughty boy who disturbs my sleep?"

And Mira, all srs bsns, is all, "KYOUSUKE WAKE UP THIS IS MY FIRST DAY OF HIGH SCHOOL WE'RE GOING TO MISS THE STUDENT ASSEMBY AND I CAN'T BARE THE SHAME OF THAT," and uh, Kyousuke pulls him onto the bed, presumably for sex tiems or a spanking or something. Kyousuke, btw, sleeps naked and Mira tells him to not do that anymore. rofl. I wonder if Kyousuke has his name written on his underwear like a little kid? (Get used to the Weiss Kreuz jokes and references, I make a lot of them.) Anyway, Kyousuke's all whatever and COMMENCE SEXY TIMES. I think he gives Mira a blowjob or whatever.

Mira, because of awesome sex with his father (who he calls by his first name because I guess that's what incest does or something), is now running late. He has a Tsukino Usagi moment and runs like hell to get to school. Only to find out the gate is locked. THEN HE FINDS THE PARKING LOT but all the doors are locked there too. Just when Mira is going to commit seppuku because he dared to shame his ancestors, the door opens and y helo thar hot blond boy.

Since this is BL, this hawt blond boy is gay. AND GUESS WHO HE'S VOICED BY.

If you said Okiayu Ryoutarou (cough Nat cough) you are wrong and should be ashamed. I was looking for Koyasu Takehito. Sorry, play again next time. Anyway, he's the student president council dude person and he's all, "Are you lost, n00b freshman?" and Mira's all, "Well yeah, HELP ME." Koyasu's character, whose name I don't remember, asks for his name and Mira's all, "Ore..." and then, last minute, he's all ZOMG I USED 'ORE' IN FRONT OF A THIRD YEAR (senior in high school) FJDKFJDSKFDS so he corrects it to "Boku wa Munakata Mira desu." And Utsunomiya-senpai tells him where to go after remarking that Mira's name is cute.

if you guess that this dude wants Mira's ass, you guessed right. He is not the first and not the last, either.

SO MIRA RUNS TO HIS ROOM AND SENPAI THERE DOES SOME FAVOURS and blah. He meets his two childhood friends and then we are treated a flashback about what everyone wanted to be when they grew up. Shun wanted to be a musician (which he accomplishes), Kazu wanted to be Ken Hidaka a soccer player (I'd presume J-League), which he also accomplished. And Mira wasn't sure, until Kyousuke comes calling, and he decides, "HAY I'LL BE PAPA'S BRIDE."

Mira remarks that, at the time, he didn't know what he and his dearest 'papa' were doing wasn't, uh, normal.

orly. Since you were a cute kid, I will let that slide. Also, your seiyuu is my number one, so I will forgive you. For now.

PUSH BACK TO THE PRESENT, where Kyousuke is walking down the hallway to where his son's class is. 'Cause it's orientation for the parents or some shit like that, so Kyousuke is there, along with everyone's moms. And they're fangirling like ten year olds at a Green Day concert who desperately want Billie Joe to pick them to play Longview or Knowledge or something. Mira angsts because ZOMG THAT BASTARD COULD HAVE DRIVEN ME HERE INSTEAD OF LETTING ME HAUL ASS. this is after the whole thing Kazu says after the flashback: "You became a musician, I became a soccer player, and Mira-kun is still in love with his papa."

So then Mira's all I HATE HIM I HATE HIM I HATE HIM like any other teenager his age. Go listen to some Linkin Park, Mira. CRAAAAAAAAWLING IN MY SKIIIIIIN.

well he gets like that later on. This is only the beginning of the first episode. Yes, there's more of this.

CUE SCENE CHANGE, WHERE THEY'RE AT HOME. Mira's all I HATE HIM and Kyousuke's all, "Who do you hate now?"

Commence blowjob or something. BUT THEN THE PHONE RINGS. God, don't you hate it when that happens? I don't because it's never happened to me. Then again, I've never gotten a blowjob in a BL series, so what the fuck do I know. Throughout the phone conversation, where he promises to meet someone somewhere, he's practically fucking Mira, so he tries to pay him back by licking his ear. And Kyousuke moans, the other person on the line is probably going all wtf you doin thar dude and he's all, "Oh, nothing." Kyousuke ends the conversation, says, "Oh I should shower before my date tonight, but first I need to punish you for being a bad boy. I will teach you why they say 'as adults do it'."

cue raunchy sex. Cue Jayden yelling, "FJDKFJDSFDS SSTTTTTOOOOOOOP," because dammit Midorikawa sounds like he's having sex, I'm getting mental images, getting turned on, and then Nat's all, "SCENE CHAAAANGE TO THE NEXT DAY."

yeah, thanks Nat.

So Mira opens the door and sees Kazu. He goes, "Morning, Kazu," before practically passing out. Yeah, exhausted from sex. Check. They're walking, he's thinking about fdskfjds raunchy sex, and he runs into a tree. Which senpai sees, laughs, and goes, "Good morning, lost kitten." HE'S NOT ONE OF THE KITTENS, UTSUNOMIYA. HE'S ON THE OTHER TEAM WITH THE SUPERNATURAL POWERS. And Kazu's all, "NO HE'S MINE," and Mira, who I expect is probably braindamaged from all the raunchy sex he and Kyousuke participate in, doesn't get it. Meanwhile, I can see this from a mile away.

CUT TO THE SCHOOL, where Mira pulls out this crumbled paper and goes OH SHIT I WAS SUPPOSED TO GIVE THIS TO KYOUSUKE because he needs a copy of the family register from the prefectural office where their permanent residence is, but OH NOES THAT'S IN THE NEXT TOWN. So he grabs Kazu and runs off because THIS JUST CAN'T WAIT. Even though he still has a day to do it. I mean who the fuck gets all flustered over that? Priorities, Mira, what are they? "Sex with Kyousuke, cooking, cleaning, emoing, homework"? WHAT KIND OF JAPANESE BOY ARE YOU.

So Mira laments the 300 yen he had to spent to get a family name seal so he could sign the stupid registar or whatever. Three hundred yen isn't even that much. That's like, $3.55 according to the current exchange rate. Whoopee, $3.55 for a wooden, handmade seal stamp. If I were to get something custom made or whatever, it'd be more than that. Cry more, Mira. Then he gets his family register and finds out that OMG I'M NOT KYOUSUKE'S SON I WAS ADOPTED and has a freak out.

So Mira mopes about Kyousuke possibly not being his father. He wants to confront him about this, but since he's the uke he's afraid to. He makes a nice dinner and everything but that bastard comes home late. Bah. Then Kazu and Utsunomiya get into an almost fight because Kazu is like in love with Mira and they almost have sex, but Mira only likes blood relatives. Sorry, Kazu. But he's willing to wait for Mira's Hargreaves Syndrome to be oppressed with his cock medicine. Note, there is no cure for Hargreaves Syndrome. Sorry, Kazu.

MEANWHILE, RUMOUR HAS IT THAT KYOUSUKE'S GETTING MARRIED TO SOME ACTRESS WOMAN. And Mira's not happy about it, but he only wants Kyousuke's happiness so pff. He wants to ask Kyousuke if he's really his son, but he can't make himself say anything. Bah, grow some balls. SO THEN ALL GOES FINE IN SCHOOL, he and Kazu are eating outside by the field, eating from Mira's delicious bento because, as Kazu says, "You'll be the perfect wife." And Mira's response? "Of course I will be! I'm good at cooking and I'm great in bed." And just when Kazu gets all butthurt because he can't be in Mira's bed and claim that sweet uke ass, SOMETHING HAPPENS. But before we get to that, they have a discussion on how senpai ttly wants in Mira's pants, and Mira doesn't mind because, "It's not like I'm a virgin anyway."

So Mira's running through the hospital hallway as per dramatic scene changes go, and he barges into the room, flops down on the floor next to the bed, and basically goes on about how ZOMG YOU SAID YOU'D NEVER LEAVE ME YOU BASTARD I LOVE YOU HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME I MADE MY MISTAKES, GOT NOWHERE TO RUN, BUT LIFE GOES ON AS I'M FADING AWAAAAAY DON'T YOU DARE PULL ME AWAY FROM HIM, I WANT TO DIE WITH HIM." It takes Kyousuke's manager to say, "He's got some minor injuries, he'll be fine in a few days."

LOL.

Oh, btw, Kyousuke's a bigshot actor, in case you didn't get that impression. SO MANAGER DUDE tells all this stuff, like how Mira's the only thing in his life, how manager dude told him that there was no way he could raise a son, but KYOUSUKE PERSEVERED and you can almost hear the dramatic swell of violins in the background here, folks. AND THAT MAKES HIM SO STRONG and he asks Mira to take care of Kyousuke and all that crap. SO THEN ACTRESS WOMAN EVERYONE THINKS KYOUSUKE'S MARRYING SHOWS UP and sees Mira and is all, "ZOMG MIRA." Guess who she is, folks:

Mira is pissed at her because she's trying to take his man. CUE SCENE CHANGE where Mira's watching TV and the news that Kyousuke's out of the hospital is on every single channel, possibly even Paradise TV*.

* Paradise TV is Japan's largest pr0n network.

So then the door bell rings and Mira's all WHO THE FUCK IS RINGING AT THIS HOUR never mind it's only like two in the afternoon. He sees through the screen on the intercom system that like, every house in Japan must have that it's that Utsunomiya Mitsuki bitch and what the fuck does she want? So he opens the door and says, "KYOUSUKE'S NOT HOME GO AWAY." Okay, he doesn't say it like that. He says, "If you're looking for Kyousuke, he's not here." And he says it all pouty and goddammit I love his seiyuu so much. She goes, "I'm not here to see him, I'm here to see you." And then she asks if it's all right if he's her son as well, and that it's all right with Kyousuke. Mira's all HANO and yeah. He runs away to this hilly grassy place on a shoreline and I swear I've seen this particular scene background in an episode of Weiss Kreuz. The one where Ken meets Yuriko, where he asserts his florist knowledge.

I have taken the liberty of screencapping that in the hopes that anyone on my flist who's seen Weiss Kreuz might recognise it as well. I DID AT LEAST.

Regardless it's a pretty shot. :D

ANYWAY. He's looking at the clouds and cue a flashback about cloudwatching. And he starts crying because that bastard Kyousuke.

Mira has this dream about darkness and all of the sudden angel feathers appear and, "Mira," is said in a way that I went, "ZOMG YOHJI," because yeah I am a Weisstard. And lo and behold, he wakes up and finds Yohji's Kyousuke's jacket draped over him, and Kyousuke's sitting there. He was worried sick and looked everywhere he knew he'd probably go. He nearly cried, in fact, because Mira's the only thing he lives for and if we replace his name with Asuka's, I could pretend this is Weiss Kreuz. Mira basically rehashes the previous paragraph to Kyousuke, and then Kyousuke says he should know the secret to his birth, and Mira's all BUT I KNOW and so Kyousuke's all, "Utsunomiya Mitsuki is your mother. Oh, and BTW, she's also my older sister."

So then Kyousuke launches into this whole backstory about how his parents died when they were young and his sister and he went into the movie business and became successful and she got pregnant right before she became like, a Hollywood actress and she gave birth to Mira. And was determined to raise him. But then she was given this once in a lifetime chance so Kyousuke, who was FOURTEEN and IN MIDDLE SCHOOL at the time (third year of middle school which would put him at ninth grade I believe), raised Mira himself.

Cue I love yous and THAT IS HOW IT ENDS.

In other news not related to that, I watched, after that, the first episode of Saiunkoku Monogatari, wherein Nat failed at playing Spot the Seiyuu and I won because I'm awesome and she's not. She somehow couldn't identify Hiyama Nobuyuki, and his character did a lot of yelling and screaming, and we all know that when Hiyama Nobuyuki screams, he sounds like Link. So. First hot guy I spotted happens to have been Midorikawa's character. Mmm. I'll have to do an episode-by-episode review of that, too at some point. Probably no one on my flist save for one person has heard of this anime, but. Whatever. It's good. You should all give it a gander.

Now I'mma go get some ramen and, uh, die from sleep deprivation.
