[FE12 TRANSLATION PLAYTHROUGH -- JIEDEN] Opening Sequence

This entire thing will be public because, you know, I'm doing this for fandom, so I want others to be able to see it too.

Reason for this translation project: Simply put, I'm tired of seeing "Oh and then this happened, and oh this convo happened too but it's not important enough to even summarise and I have no idea what this is and blah blah blah," being passed off as a translation. You either do it to the best of your ability, or you don't do it at all. So this is my attempt to translate it, to the best of my ability.

Also, I want to know what the hell they did to Marth. I can't use bits and pieces without any context whatsoever and say, "Oh, they screwed Marth up." I want context.

My credentials, if you want them: I have been learning Japanese since I was seven years old--so that would be 1999. I got really into it in 2002, and I took four years of classroom study in high school. I am conversationally fluent and my reading and writing skills are considered proficient.

This is, by no means, a professional translation. I am not claiming it as such. This is my interpretation of the original text.

If you have any corrections or additions, feel free to comment and let me know! You will be properly credited where the text shows up and on the resources list (when I get around to creating it).

Now that that crap is out of the way...

I have posted screen caps of the original text both as a comparison and, in the event I don't know how to translate something, it can be used by others for the purpose of corrections. Also this is a playthrough, a screen cap "Let's Play" of FE12. Because of the screen caps, there are going to be a lot of graphics and it might be slow for some people. I have placed all images behind a cut for the poor people on dial-up, and to spare your flists. I'm a nice person, what can I say?



Not a single person didn't know the name of the Hero King Marth
or that he saved the world.

Mmm, Marth has sexy arms. Club Sexy Arms is open for business. Oh yeah... [Pretend there's a gap between the two screens, my emulator doesn't allow me to photograph that gap where the hinge would be on an actual DS.]


However, there was someone else who was not as well known as Marth.

Mmm. More sexy arms. Also, I wonder who this cloaked person could be? Maybe it's this n00b we've never heard of?



Amidst all of the fighting, Marth swung his sword
surrounded by heroes close by him [or something to that effect]

Speaking of sexy arms, hai Oguma. Look at those rippling muscles.

Did I mention that Marth had sexy arms? No? Well he does. He has sexy hands too. Mmm.

I think he's shaking hands with MyUnit, but I can't be sure. That's what I've read though.

I'm pretty sure that's Falchion. I think I say that every time I watch this. I have bad memory. I'm guessing the weapons featured predominantly in this picture are important to the plot. Especially the one we're focused on the most.


The name is--


TITLE SCREEN.

In the process of doing this post, I realised that I FUBAR'D some kanji, and I fixed a line that I thought was previously untranslatable because it made fuck all sense. Took me five seconds to look the correct kanji up and redo my line translation. If you find any lines that need smoothing out and you can provide a fix, let me know and I'll implement it in. Pretty sure it's understandable--I had to poke the translation several times. Japanese is not, by any means, an easy language to translate from, much as I love it.

So yeah, that was the opening sequence. I'll get to the heart of this in another entry, where we create our very own MyUnit for 4800 yen only! :D

And in case you were wondering why it has 'PLAYTHROUGH -- JIEDEN' in the title is because I'm doing a male and female MyUnit just to see the differences. Jieden will always be a male badass merc with the brains of a Jellyfish, and the female, for lack of a better naming scheme, is named Mary Sue. I have Jieden all set, but I don't know what to do with Mary Sue, so...

Keep in mind that if you choose something from her past, you cannot select that bonus for anything else. So for example, if you choose Orphan, you can't have Heterogeneity or Recluse. Choose wisely :D

Oh, Gundam Wing fandom. It truly was horrifying back in the day. Not as bad now, but it still sucks. Mark would probably agree with me.

LMFAO. At the time I was used to the crazy in the Sailor Moon fandom - dubbies vs. subbies, Prince Uranus, ZOMG GENERALS/SENSHI IS CANON. . .
And then I discovered the Wing fandom and realized the true meaning of "batshit insane".
Helps that my favorite was Relena, and I thought she and Heero were the cutest. Hahahahahaaaaa.

Man, at the time I was HARDCORE Westboro Baptist-style "Christian", and even then I was like "man, that guy is so gay it hurts." Same for Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho. It was like, "guys, really."
(I'm very glad I got away from that particular sect, though. Craziness indeed.)

I might need to do the same because my face was basically like *A* IRL.
Now. He just needs to do Soma. Or Mikage. Or Leon. Or. Hell, all of the above. AT THE SAME TIME.

See, while I was big into Sailor Moon fandom, I never encountered the batshit insane people. I was probably lucky for that, hahaha. The whole dubs vs. subs debate is moot point. I prefer subs over dubs, and I admit back then I was a little elitist about it, but I grew up in a time where anime was new and had just come out, so the dubs were made of fail. But wouldn't ever (at least now) tell someone they are a lesser person for liking dubs. I was just bitter than the dubs didn't have Midorikawa, who was known as 'the guy who did Heero Yuy' before I knew who he was.

HAHAHAHAHAHA, I grew up in a devoutly Catholic household and even I could tell George was really, uh...gay. I thought Kurama was a girl at first. Whoops. Can you blame me though?

I was watching some other video with Midorikawa and that was one of the related results, so I clicked it, not knowing what it was about, and when I saw him in cosplay I literally screamed because GODDAMN. It should be illegal for someone to be as sexy as him. nnnng.

THAT WOULD BE AWESOME OMG.

I haven't even watched Utena yet. I've been so busy, but I'll get around to it, maybe later today. I should find out what episodes he's in and just watch those LOL. (I've done that before, sadly enough. With Sailor Moon.)

This. I still hate dubs for the most part, but I'm not telling peopel they can't watch them if that's what they like. I...just won't be watching them, but the originals instead.

No seriously I can't look at Midorikawa for more than five seconds without blushing like a maniac, giggling like a ten year old school girl, and having to turn the air conditioner on in sub zero weather because, "Oh, is it hot in here or is it just me?" Seriously. Any more than five seconds and I just...melt. Into a puddle of goo. Oh god. He's sexy in pics and then he's sexier in video and so imagine how sexy he must be in person? Goddammit.

Hahaha, I might get to that second arc very soon. I'm already on episode five, going through the opening. Upon hearing it again, it's actually not that bad of a song. It'll probably be stuck in my head and I'll download it and go, "Huh, this really isn't bad at all."

yeah but see, the original of G Gundam is JUST AS CHEESY as the dub. Where else did the dub get it from? Seriously. In G Gundam though I usually use "YOU JUST GOT HIDAKA'D" as a replacement for "SHINING FINGER" because the seiyuu for Domon (Seki Tomokazu) also does Ken Hidaka from Weiss Kreuz. So.

Midorikawa sings in the one episode in Slayers NEXT and it is the best thing ever~~~
